How to choose the right rug size
Living room. Ideally the rug is large enough that the front legs of your sofa and chairs sit on it, framing the seating area. Leave roughly 8–18 inches of bare floor between the rug edge and the walls.
Bedroom. Place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed so it extends about 18–24 inches beyond each side and the foot, giving a soft surface where you step out of bed. Runners on each side are an alternative in tight rooms.
Dining room. Choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches (60 cm) beyond the table on every side, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out to sit.
